How to Increase Home Security on a Budget

Home security information

Many people would like to improve the standard of security in their home. Unfortunately, this will often cost a lot of money.

However, it doesn’t always have to be this way. There are plenty of things that you can be doing to improve the level of security that you have in your home without splashing out thousands of pounds – let’s take a look…

Use Security Signs

Even if you don’t have CCTV installed at your home, it doesn’t maen that you can’t have stickers or signs up suggesting otherwise. If people think that you have surveillance around your home, they’re going to think twice about committing a crime on the premises.

Purchase Motion Detectors

Motion detectors are a much cheaper alternative to CCTV cameras. Whilst they won’t record the movements of any intruders, they can be connected to mobile apps that will alert you instantly should there be any detection whilst you’re out of the house.

Install Fake Cameras

If home surveillance is out of your price range, why not consider purchasing fake cameras? Strategically placed replicas would work even more effectively than security signs, potentially warding off intruders before they even set foot on your land.

Use Lighting Effectively

Most burglars or criminals will prefer to work in the dark because there is less chance of them being caught. Therefore, it may be sensible to install motion-sensing lights around the home, or to have lights on a timer so that they turn on at set times of the day – even if you’re out of the house.

Get a Guard Dog

Not only are dogs a friendly family companion, guard dogs have a natural instinct for protecting your home. They have superior hearing and will be quick to alert you of any footsteps outside the front or back of your home.

Guard Dog Signs

You don’t need to have a dog to use signage cleverly (as mentioned with the surveillance signs) – just get a sign saying ‘beware of the dog’!

Protect Your Identity

With an ever-increasing dependance on the internet, it’s easy to leave yourself vulnerable to fraudulent behaviour. Ensure that you use effective passcodes on ALL of your technological devices.

Cut Back Shrubbery

Bushes and plants can look great when in full bloom, but this can make for excellent hiding places. Ensure your shrubbery is cut back as much as possible – leaving no corners or edgings easy to hide in or behind.

One final great idea is to consider storing your unwanted or currently unused possessions in one of our high quality, highly secure self-storage crates.
